PRINT SCREEN | Film Screenings

As part of PRINT SCREEN, we will be screening two films that explore the theme of capitalist expansion, and how it impacts the lives of marginalised groups.

Gagarine
3.00PM – 4.30PM
Yuri, 16, has lived all his life in Gagarin Towers, a vast red-brick housing project on the outskirts of Paris. He dreams of becoming an astronaut. When plans to demolish Gagarin Towers leak out, Yuri joins the resistance. With his friends Diana and Houssam, he embarks on a mission to save their home, which has become his “starship.”

Standing on Sacred Ground: Islands of Sanctuary
5.00PM – 6.00PM
Native Hawaiians and Aboriginal Australians resist threats to their sacred places in a growing international movement to defend human rights and protect the environment. In Australia’s Northern Territory, Aboriginal clans maintain Indigenous Protected Areas and resist the destructive effects of a mining boom. In Hawai`i, indigenous ecological and spiritual practices are used to restore the sacred island of Kaho`olawe after 50 years of military use as a bombing range.
