As Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA) celebrates its 25th Anniversary, the year 2018 is indeed going to be an exceptional year. One of the lined-up events to mark this occasion is an annual art exhibition that showcases artworks by artists-in-training and student-artists from the VOICES (Visual Art) programme. The key highlight of this event would be a Letter of Collaboration (LOC) signing ceremony with Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) to recognise VSA’s VOICES (Visual Art) training to be eligible for a top-up Certificate in Fine Art conferred by NAFA Centre for Lifelong Education.
For this year’s theme for the exhibition, we are using words from a poem as a guide for the student-artists and artists-in-training to create works that best represent the idea of “Rhythm and Water”. With this theme, we have asked them to express their inner, and often hidden, serenity self with the works they are creating during VOICES lessons. The process of art making usually calms these young artists (with special needs and disabilities) down and allows them to focus on their thoughts. Hence, we hope the audience gets to see a different side of them through these works.
