Looking for something enriching to do after your Work From Home (WFH) schedule? Wish you knew more about ethnic traditions or want to help your children understand traditional dance in Singapore? The National Arts Council (NAC) is delighted to present ROUTES, an exhibition on the evolution of traditional dance through storytelling and immersive technology at the Stamford Arts Centre (SAC).
ROUTES unpacks local Chinese, Malay, and Indian traditional dance practices, and presents a multi-perspective reflection on the current traditional dance scene in Singapore. In this exhibition, visitors can learn about what is being retained and evolved, and how these art forms have grown into the unique practices we know and experience today.
Anchored on stories from Singapore’s dance pioneers and practitioners including Santha Bhaskar, Som Said, Lim Moi Kim, Cai Shiji, Raka Maitra, and Noramin Farid, ROUTES taps on their first-person accounts, delves into the preservation of traditional dance and its continuity in the future. The exhibition also explores the notion of contemporary, as classically trained practitioners continue pushing boundaries in interpretation and
expression.
