39+ Art Space is delighted to be featuring Laotian-born Australian artist Savanhdary Vongpoothorn, in her second solo exhibition in Singapore. The body of work in this exhibition makes a physical mark on the artist’s experience of finding her grounding after definitive moments in life. Through the use of iridescent and phosphorescent paints the artist seeks to create works that literally glow during the dark times.
Savanhdary Vongpoothorn (b. 1971, Champasak in Laos) is one of Australia’s leading artists from the South East Asian region whose practice is a reflection of her journey through life. Born in Laos in 1971, she immigrated to Australia as a child in 1979, and her art is heavily influenced by her experiences growing up in two very different cultures. She often depicts natural landscapes and Buddhist symbols, creating works that are infused with spirituality and a sense of identity and belonging.
