‘Seeing within Dreams’ Opening Ceremony Guest Photo, by Prestige Art Gallery
Seeing within Dreams is an exhibition by a trio of international artists of Asian descent across artistic practices with curator Liu YingMei. These artists are part of the vibrant Asian diaspora living across western cities. Jumaadi (b. 1973), an Indonesian-Australian artist, is based in both Yogyakarta and Sydney, Australia. Pearl C Hsiung (b. 1973), Taiwanese-American, and Sarah Lee (b.1990), Korean-American, are currently both based in Los Angeles, USA.
Thriving in their own individualistic styles, they encompass a certain voice and identity, inevitably taking inspiration from their environments they inhabit. Each has a story-telling quality to their contemplation. Viewers can observe the artists’ experimentation of iconographies taken from a wide spectrum from traditional roots, to new school of thoughts, to eastern/western popular culture in media.
