In her solo showcase ‘The Only Constant’, local artist Shen Jia Qi builds upon time’s unpredictable reputation through an array of vibrant colours, beckoning us to take a closer look. Her emotive use of colour trigger a sense of collective familiarity and memory, subsequently reminding us of the routines that we associate with our identity, roles within society and overarching existence.
Translating visuals from the urban environment of Singapore, her luminous paintings reminiscent of the golden hour, teleports us to deeply personal spaces. Prompting a look inward at our day to day routines, boundaries and comforts. How do these patterns accumulate in our finite existence? How much space have they taken up and Is time truly as unpredictable as we imagine?
