Shin-Young Park – DWELL:ING

Happening at Visual Arts Centre is Shin-Young Park’s “DWELL:ING” exhibition, presented by Ludo Gallery. Inspired by shared public spaces and buildings, DWELL:ING compiles two different mediums – photographs and layered print works – which urge us to challenge our perspectives on Singapore’s building structures as we know it.

The series of Housing Development Board photographs are well-juxtaposed with layered pieces to create an almost ‘alternate reality’ view of the building structures. Shin-Young re-interprets the colourful, concrete public housing imagery with linear graphics, altering our notion of concrete and shared space.

In accompaniment, layered print works depict a myriad of objects both natural and man-made. Using screen-printing of metal and paper, Shin-Young ‘s works are reflective of life in a contemporary and modern city. These objects, once repositioned, gain deserved recognition and admiration.

By altering and enhancing reality as we know it, Shin-Young’s multilayered artworks encourage us to rethink our current perspectives on the structures and buildings around us, and also remind the viewer to enjoy the places and spaces that we share together.
