Khaw Sia’s Orchid Garden is part I of the SG54 Art Exhibitions by Ming Liu Art, which features the immaculate watercolour techniques of renowned orchid master, Khaw Sia. Integrating the painting techniques of both the east and west, his Chinese brush and English watercolour techniques bring about a harmonious fusion in his art works.
Born in China, Khaw Sia studied at the Sung Hua Academy in Shanghai. During his term at the academy, he met several famous Chinese brush artists, exposing him to the Chinese brush technique. Following this, Khaw Sia took a brief private lesson under the tutelage of Sir William Russell Flint, the former president of Britain’s Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour. Under Sir Flint’s guidance, Khaw Sia developed his exquisite meticulous style of the English watercolour – the complementary technique to the Chinese brush, a fusion which he is famously known for.
My Story with Singapore – part II of the exhibition, showcases four local artists: Chua Mia Tee, Thang Kiang How, Ren Jian Hui, and the late Fan Chang Tien. A multitude of talent and diversity, these four artists bring together a visual spectacle for fine art lovers.
Chua Mia Tee is a Singaporean painter and Cultural Medallion recipient. His works are exhibited in the National Gallery Singapore.
Thang Kiang How is an eminent second generation artist, known for devising the unique technique of combining acrylic and airbrush painting. Other than paintings, Thang has also received important commissions by various government boards, one of which includes three wall murals at Raffles and Orchard MRT stations.
Ren Jian Hui is the president of Artists Society of Singapore and a member of the China Artists Association. He graduated from Art Academy of Qing Hua University, and used to teach at the National University of Singapore. He was selected as one of the “Top 60 Masters of International Contemporary artists” in 2013, and was the first Southeast Asian artist to be awarded the nomination.
Fan Chang Tien was one of the most established and respected pioneer artists in Singapore. The exhibition will showcase over 10 of Fan’s masterpieces.
