As part of her project “Every Step Counts” for the next edition of the Singapore Biennale 2019 (22 Nov 2019 – 22 Mar 2020), the Walking Workshop aims to share with the interested participants the working process of live art practices and Amanda’s many walking projects in the past. Addressing the reality of the aging body and the need to seek new meanings for the artist’s personal life, “Every Step Counts” will examine how the body looks to its own natural sources from within for a new understanding of life and to find new meanings and strategies for resistance, adaptation, sustainability and renewal.
“Every Step Counts”, with events and presentations stretching from June 2019 to March 2020, is made up of the following components:
1) The Walking Workshop
2) A text-based work at the Singapore Art Museum during the Singapore Biennale
3) Video projections of the live walk performance at the Esplanade Tunnel during the Singapore Biennale
4) Monthly live walk performances by the artist during the Singapore Biennale
The Walking Workshop hopes to evoke in the participants the consciousness of their own inner sources for healing and renewal. They will learn to create walking rituals as they identify issues they face in life. Participants will be involved in a live walk performance devised during the workshop, which will be featured in the artist’s presentation at the Singapore Biennale 2019. Detailed schedules of the live walk performance will be provided at the workshop.
