This year, SYPA boasts a brand new take on current sustainability methods by presenting the theme ZERO, aimed to provoke rethinking of climate related problems around us and how we should change for a more sustainable future. The new theme invites creative interpretation and presentation of issues related to sustainability. It can be about zero waste, zero energy, zero marine pollution, ideas that link to UN Sustainable Development Goals 7, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. ZERO opens up various possibilities for participants to express their creativity in communicating the urgent message of sustainability, to maintain and cherish life as we know it.
Submission for the award is open to all students age 13 to 25 years old based in Singapore, including international schools. Participants will submit via sypa.sg to either the Junior or Youth categories. There will be cash prizes worth S$10,000 as well as cameras by Canon Singapore, the official camera supporter for SYPA 2020. It will also be the first time that SYPA will be part of the Singapore International Photography Festival, one of the biggest photography platforms held in Southeast Asia. A series of fringe events powered by the National Youth Council will take place to spur young photographers to explore the theme ZERO and to improve on their technical skills to present their submissions.
