This seminar-dialogue is a complementary programme to Singapore Design: The Alchemists exhibition. The display demonstrates the creativity of 15 Singaporean designers who investigated and applied alchemy to create their works. They are inspired by the transformation of materials into objects of function and value. The works were created at a 2014 workshop organised by DesignSingapore Council; and subsequently, exhibited to critical success at the Triennale di Milano in 2015. The exhibition returns for a homecoming.
Patrick Chia, a facilitator at the original workshop, will present his thoughts on guiding and mentoring the designers. Mr Chia will then moderate a dialogue featuring Yoichi Nakamuta (producer of The Alchemists) and participating designers Olivia Lee, Karyn Lim, Hans Tan and Hunn Wai. They will discuss the identity of Singaporean design; the challenges of design practitioners; and the opportunities generated from the exposure at Triennale di Milano.
