Many of Singapore’s most important tourist landmarks are sculptures by both local and internationally renowned artists.
This lecture will take the audience on a virtual tour of some of the many examples to be found in hotels, in office buildings and dotted around streets and squares of the city.
Starting with Ng Eng Teng, recognized as the father of Singapore sculpture, and Han Sai Por, who established the Sculpture Society in 2001, the talk will review some of the major artists and their work to be encountered in Singapore. It will include artists such as Moore, Stella, Indiana, Lichtenstein, Botero and many more. The talk will also look at the work of the artists in the context of their wider body of work, and its placement in other major cities throughout the world; demonstrating Singapore’s artistic status as a major ‘Art City’.
