The exhibition “Sojourns” will be showcasing 17 exquisite works by selected artists from the legendary Ten Men Group, celebrating the chronicles by the artists following their expeditions. The exhibition is a spectacular line-up of artworks by Yeh Chi Wei, Chen Cheng Mei, Choo Keng Kwang, Lai Foong Moi, Lee Sik Khoon, Lim Tze Peng, Seah Kim Joo, Tan Choh Tee, and Tan Teo Kwang.
Art lovers will be treated to a rare surviving oil by the Group’s revered leader, Yeh Chi Wei as well as two artworks by the late Chen Cheng Mei; an oil and a rare watercolour completed in 1950 in the style of her mentor, Cheong Soo Pieng. We also have two early regional impressionism works by Choo Keng Kwang, as well as an excellent depiction of a Kampong by pioneer female artist Lai Foong Moi.
6 never-before-seen paintings of Bali and Cambodia’s Angkor Wat by Cultural Medallion recipient Lim Tze Peng, arguably Singapore’s most important living artist, are also on display. There are also three different interpretations of the Singapore River, the first being one of the early oils by Choo Keng Kwang mentioned earlier, the second an intricate Batik painting by Seah Kim Joo, and the third by another Cultural Medallion recipient, Tan Choh Tee. There is also an excellent painting of a nude by Tan Choh Tee. Two abstract works round up the exhibition, with Lee Sik Khoon and Tan Teo Kwang each contributing a piece.
