When observing the brush strokes of Zhao Hong’s ink paintings, we can easily sense the literati temperament and tradition, as well as the influence traced back to Song Dynasty, where an aura of classic scholarly elegance and oriental philosophy would be found. Meanwhile, we see a modern, dauntless artist innovating in his arts, amalgamating the East and the West. Obviously, he is an intrepid artist who is not afraid of charting new chapters in the contemporary world of new ink painting.
In Zhao Hong’s creative world of art, the line occupied a spiritual core: the spectacular, ever-changing effect of ink as a result of the use of water to varying degrees is his everlasting pursuit. Watercolour and oil pigment are interpreted entirely in a different way when they take the form of ink on rice paper.
