As a theatre festival, Southernmost is conceptualised as Emergency Stairs’ answer to the question, “How do you create an arts festival for the future?”
Southernmost proposes a festival format that focuses more on process and artist. It brings together traditional and contemporary artists to examine the relevance of the past to the present, in a series of open rehearsals and showcases that build up towards a production and forum.
Southernmost invites the audience to closely follow the artistic dialogues that happen both onstage and offstage. Using the process of critique and self-critique, Southernmost is an attempt to develop a long-term vision for how exchange and change can happen in the future.
