Building on her practice of exploring unspoken gestures and signs across human society and natural environment, Joanne Pang negotiates between the physical aspect of the painting and the immateriality of thoughts and time. Experimenting with the density and textures of various materials including ink, acrylic, and graphite, Pang finds a connection to herself through art.
In Species of Text and Spots, Pang examines the degrees of unpredictability in our conversations. Utilising a range of media, Pang explores the concepts of pauses, disruption, and the weight of unspoken words, feelings and gestures. Each stroke, gash and symbol in her abstract paintings and drawings juxtaposed with the use of noise and symbols, reveals gaps and progressions in our communication. With Pang’s spontaneous and rhythmic approach to art, the series Species of Text and Spots promises viewers an engaging and insightful visual journey.
