Organised by Asian Film Archive, this exhibition explores the parallel histories and connections between the two emergent genres of Southeast Asian Horror Film and Southeast Asian Contemporary art, asking what makes these forms quintessentially Southeast Asian?
Incorporating both exhibitions and tours, the programme aims to develop a general understanding of this historical relationship between contemporary art and the cinematic in Southeast Asia.
The artworks, film screenings, panel discussions and performances, will serve as responses to the themes and relationships drawn out within the region’s own cultural and social histories in the context of ‘horror’.
