Straits features the works of Nobuaki Takekawa (Japan) and Tang Dixin (China). Takekawa presents two series of paintings–one developed during a residency in Nanjing, taking inspiration from locally-found motifs, and another that looks into the recent worsening Japan-Korea relations. On the other hand, Tang’s practice explores the idea of the “body” through his paintings and performances. This exhibition reflects the synergy and cross-cultural dialogue from their ongoing collaboration.
For their exhibition in Singapore, the two artists have been exchanging drawings via phone messaging to develop their thoughts. The exhibition will showcase these drawings as well as new works created during their stay in Singapore specially for this occasion. They will explore the environment around Gillman Barracks as well as across Singapore, and make works from their observations. The artists will also conduct a special performance at the gallery on 15th January 2020, 7.30 pm, during Singapore Art Week.
