‘Struck Gold’ is a collection of artworks that represent each artist’s battle with their own personal and artistic struggle. The decision to be a Graffiti artist in Singapore is not an easy one to make, an artist must choose between being conformist or subversive within the art world.
In this exhibition, ZincNite Crew, as underground anarchists, relentlessly strive for a better and alternate reality; a belief that Graffiti art will no longer be ostracised by society. ‘Struck Gold’ is their attempt to realign the art world’s established social order, its structures of power, authority, exploitation, servitude, and hierarchy.
ZincNite Crew was established in 1998 by founding members SLACSATU and MONK. One of the pioneering Graffiti Art collectives in Singapore, they have been an integral part of bringing the Street Art Graffiti scene into the mainstream, most recently exhibiting at the Singapore Biennale 2013.
“Beneath the earthly soil lies an intangible goal that none of us are certain of. Relentlessly, we will mine with our unfaltering belief of striking gold.“
