At the peak of internet culture, life is a surreal landscape to navigate, with reality increasingly mixing with virtual media and bombarding us with sensational news seemingly every waking hour, often preceding events that will sweep the world into yet another current of chance. These waves are felt everywhere, as Singapore , a major international hub, is obviously no exception. Young local creatives Whiteblue and Smartcassart express this chaotic state of existence with a series of colourful and energetic drawing those aesthetics are partially inspired by video games, a marker of their childhoods as well as common storytelling medium for their generation. Shiteblue’s series of character portraits comment on his identity as a Chinese individual growing up in a post-colonial society, hence the mix of Asian and Western elements in his style, while Smartcassart celebrates human resilience, adaptability and triumph in strange and fantastical environments.
