Surfaces of Time juxtaposes the celebrated ink paintings of shophouses by Chua Ek Kay (1947-2008) with a breakthrough body of impressionistic wall photographs by Lee Lim (1931-1989). Although they worked in vastly different mediums and styles, the two Cultural Medallion recipients shared a fascination with the gritty shophouses of old Singapore, capturing surfaces of time before they were conserved in later years. Surrounding this exhibition, there will be events that commemorate 30 years since Blair Plain was gazetted as a conservation area.
