Ripple Root, Birds of a Feather, Mixed Media on Raw Canvas, 153cm x 122cm
Ripple Root is set to take over the walls of the K+ gallery. Comprising artists Liquan Liew and Estella Ng, the duo is known for their bold paintings. Visitors can expect an explosion of colours, patterns and motifs that bear a distinct Southeast Asian ornamentation and folkloric twist, the hallmarks of Ripple Root’s style.
In SWAMP-ISLAND-POETRY, the artists pay homage to the primeval swamp from which life rises, building upon a theme recurrent in their works. “The mangrove has always had a special place in our hearts,” says Liquan. “It was the subject of our very first show and it continues to fascinate us… how these smelly, muddy marshes that people no longer give any time or attention to, is also a rich source of life, home to mudskippers, birds, flowers and more.”
