As part of National Gallery Singapore’s ongoing co-curated showcase with Centre Pompidou, Paris, Reframing Modernism: Connections & Ruptures symposium seeks to explore deeper the curatorial background and art history behind the exhibition. International academics and researchers will present on specific artists featured, while the curators of the exhibition will share their research.
This one-day symposium will feature keynote speeches by Professor Roger Benjamin of the University of Sydney and Catherine David, Deputy Director of the Musée national d’art moderne of the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Co-curated and presented with Centre Pompidou, Paris, Reframing Modernism reframes the existing paradigm of how modernist painting is understood, and invites visitors to reconsider how artists working in different global contexts approached modernism and modern art in the 20th century.
