Synthesis pieces together an impressive selection of 28 pieces of artwork by Dawn Kwan which highlight the themes of identity, relationship, interaction and creation.
‘Synthesis’ essentially refers to the combination of ideas to form a theory or system. Additionally, it describes the production of chemical compounds by reaction from simpler materials. Using the first metaphorical meaning, Dawn aims to combine passion, creativity, expression and emotion in her work. Simultaneously, Dawn combines chemicals with paints and fluids that flow, creating a phenomenon of a crystallised starburst effect. This produces a new identity, which becomes the curiosity of the subject.
A young Singaporean artist, Dawn Kwan, 20 has completed over 350 artworks and has seven major art exhibitions under her belt. At the age of 12, she received the Highly Commended Award – Junior Section during the 27th UOB Painting of the Year Award 2008 for her work entitled “When Dawn Overtakes the Night”.
