Do you know that the origins of the Malay musical instrument, kompang, has to do with a gigantic snake that attempted to put a village into deep slumber with its haunting melody? Discover this local legend in The Snake in the Banyan Tree by Malay Heritage Centre’s docent and storyteller, Hafiz Rashid.
Immerse yourself further and learn more about the significance of the banyan tree, the nagas (snake-like serpents) in Southeast Asian mythology and as well as other musical instruments during the tour around the Centre for Ethnobotany. You’ll also get to make your own mini drum to play your own beats!
