Taxi-On-Call, Stories of Our Taxi Drivers

As part of PAssionArts Festival 2016 – ‘Festivals within Festival’ (艺术节中之艺术节), the People’s Association (人民协会) is collaborating with the National Taxi Association (全国德士师傅协会) for the first time to present a series of theatre play titled ‘Taxi-On-Call, Stories of Our Taxi Drivers’ (德士到了- 德士师傅的故事) performed by real-life taxi drivers. The Creative Director is Ms Lim Hai Yien (林海燕).

‘Taxi-On-Call, Stories of Our Taxi Drivers’ pays tribute to taxi drivers – the unsung heros – by bringing heartwarming stories of taxi drivers, who have selflessly helped the under-previleged and demonstrated care for the community, onto the theatre stage (德士师傅的好人好事).

Grassroots Adviser Mr Ang Hin Kee, and Adviser to the National Taxi Association (NTA) will join 300 audience, comprising taxi drivers and residents, for the premiere. After the theatre show, Grassroots Adviser Mr Ang will join the casts, grassroots leaders, taxi drivers and the audience in a mass singing of 《小人物的心声》.

The opening show borrowed characters and nuances from the traditional classic “Journey To The West” (西游记) and re-adapted it to our local context with a brand new script and story that is titled 新游记. Be enthralled by the humorous dialogue and comedic acting by the taxi drivers, who have ventured into community theatre acting for the first time.
