The Blinking Organisms – You SPLEEN Me’ Round X OPERATION 1 (Belief System)

The Blinking Organisms - You SPLEEN Me’ Round X OPERATION 1 (Belief System) is Joo Choon Lin’s first solo exhibition at Chan + Hori Contemporary. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, UK, Choon Lin has shown in various prestigious institutions and exhibitions including Paradise Sans Promesse, Frac de Pays de la Loire, Nantes, France (2015); Be Mysterious, The Banff Centre, Canada (2014), 4th Singapore Biennale, Singapore (2013), Resolution of Reality, Hermes Gallery, Singapore (2012), Roving Eye, Sorlandets Kunstmuseum, Norway (2011); 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale, Japan (2009) and the 1st Aichi Triennale, Japan (2010).

The first of a three part installation series, Choon Lin continues her exploration of perception and realities, this time with spleen, the purple coloured human organ as inspiration. In English, to ‘vent one’s spleen’ is metaphor for the release of anger or frustration. The Talmud refers to it as the ‘organ of laughter’, while ancient Greeks associates it with one’s melancholy. Meanwhile, in biological terms, the spleen facilitates our immune system by recycling old red blood cells and storing platelets and white blood cells.
