Ode To Art gallery announces an exciting exhibition in March featuring the first solo of Thai artist Knakorn Kachacheewa titled ‘The Jungle of Form, Colour and Tempo’, which expresses a vivid juxtaposition of familiar styles from Western to Eastern influences that together meld into colourful, eye-catching visuals.
The exhibition will unveil up to 12 new works by the award-winning impressionist painter. This is, undoubtedly, a rare opportunity to witness a Thai artist’s paintings that have been honoured both nationally and internationally.
Boasting an approach that embodies pastel hues and pop vivacity, Kachacheewa’s works impel viewers to notice every edge and intricate detail. Constant contrast, colour blocking with the illusion of negative space and brightest hues rounded off with translucence all coalesce into masterpieces that command one’s attention.
An artist of Thai heritage, the Eastern elements of Kachacheewa’s works are intricate and woven seamlessly into his divertive style. Thai art has long held a tradition of two dimensional depictions where primary elements are kept isolated through the use of transformative space. Using this as his canvas composition, the artist then creates his imagery in distinctly Western styles, with his dark green foliage bringing to mind the fantastic worlds of Rousseau, and his patterned segmentation ringing clearly Pop technique.
The resulting meld is a stunning aesthetic that carries a porcelain sheen of delicate perfection while still carving out contours of a determined brush stroke.
Kachacheewa’s penchant for blurring the distinction between reality and surrealism engenders a body of work that rings of ethereal places and spaces. This will be an eclectic journey through forests, waters and kaleidoscopic lands.
