As founder and creative director of 5W Infographics and former art director of National Geographic Magazine from 2008 to 2014, Juan Velasco is one of the biggest names in information design today.
This two-day workshop, hosted by Methodology on May 21–22, will explain the role of infographics in visual storytelling and how to create your own. Attendees will do practical exercises to create interactive data visualization and web maps with the help of Tableau Public. They will learn how to gather and prepare data, as well as how to draw up charts, sketches, and storyboards using numerical information. They will also experiment with hierarchy, color, typography, illustration, and narrative to create effective infographics that make an impact.
The class will offer an overview of essential tools and strategies for creating engaging and animated interactive graphics for mobile devices and the web. Multiple award-winning projects from National Geographic magazine will also be explained.
