Koh Kai Ting, You Need A Scapegoat, (A Confucian Debate on Human Nature), 2018, Watercolor on polyester mesh, mounted on board, 66cm x 55cm

The Sacred Violence is an exhibition by Malaysian artist,Koh Kai Ting, showcasing a selection of paintings and prints that drew inspiration from scapegoat mechanism.

Koh Kai Ting looked at the conflict between individual happiness and expectation of society through philosophical texts and observation of her surroundings. Her works feature goat as a metaphor to represent societal phenomenon such as Stereotype, Prejudice and Discrimination that surround contemporary life. She attempts to open discussion on the pursuit of happiness and its connection between individual and collective society. It lead viewers to question how much of happiness is under personal control and the important of happiness to one’s life.

This is Koh Kai Ting’s first debut and solo exhibition with One East Asia gallery, Singapore.
