Travel Light. My Queen. 91.5 x 122cm oil on canvas 2018 by Welbart The Dance. 122 x 91.5 cm oil on canvas 2018 by Abi Dionisio
In conjunction with Philippine Art Trek 2018, Singapore’s One East Asia Gallery will be featuring the long awaited joint exhibition by Abigail Dionisio and Welbart entitled, “Travel Light” on September 25th (Tuesday) 2018. Hailing from the Philippines, the two artists are known for their fantastical, hyper realistic oil paintings. This will be the duo’s first back-to-back exhibition together and will be Welbart’s second show at One East Asia Gallery.
Abigail Dionisio and Welbart use sailboats and hot air balloons in their paintings to represent their voyage to life as a couple. With the boat’s connection to water, it is said to symbolize femininity and motherhood. The hot air balloons, on the other hand, is associated with social elevation, popularity or fame.
Dionisio and Welbart are multi-awarded art practitioners from a provincial town in the Philippines, with successful solo exhibitions in their names. They shared studio in the early part of their careers and now work separately. The couple’s engagement early this year is the inspiration to travel light.
Dionisio and Welbart will present ten new paintings all together for this exhibition.
