Tropical Lab is an annual international art camp and exhibition organised by LASALLE College of the Arts. Practising artists and students from major international art schools and institutions embark on a collective journey to explore history, geography, economics and aesthetics.
This year’s edition explores the theme of déjà vu. Migrating strangers become bedfellows as they cite, recite, incite and prophesise a paradox: the present experienced as the past. This paradox forms a metaphoric soundscape of change and return, in which both erase their antecedents. A sonic schematic that whirls away, only to become a citation in memory. The speed of technology and contemporary life often prevent us from being able to cite, translate, decipher and remember these moments of paradox. The works in the exhibition express these sensations and ideas through a range of media.
