Singaporean pioneer artist Choo Keng Kwang collaborates with Swissôtel Merchant Court, Singapore to kick start the celebration of Singapore’s 50th birthday.
Born in Singapore in 1931, Choo started painting intensely after he graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1953. Witnessing the growth and development of Singapore, his works capture Singapore’s memorable lifestyle of Singapore before she turns into the cosmopolitan city she is today. As one of the veteran artists for this nation, Choo would like to take the opportunity to celebrate this special year. Through this open exhibition, he hopes for the old to recollect their memories of the days of yore as well as to educate younger generation about Singapore history up
close.
For this memorable occasion, Choo has agreed to reproduce several early Singapore scenes from his personal collection to be displayed and sold at this exhibition. For many who are familiar with Choo’s work, this exhibition provides a rare opportunity to see paintings very few people have ever seen as Choo’s original paintings of early Singapore has not been in the market for a long time. Art enthusiasts will finally have the opportunity to bring home Mr Choo’s much sought-after artworks at this exhibition as well.
Over the course of the exhibition’s three-month run at the lobby of Swissôtel Merchant Court next to Crossroads Bar, the paintings will be refreshed on a monthly basis.
