Victor Ang Chinese Ink Solo Art Exhibition features calligraphy works with rice paper instead of brushes. This is Victor Ang’s eighth solo exhibition, and it is presented by Tide Gallery and Ding Yi Xuan Art Centre.
Victor established his unique calligraphy and painting techniques of “paper-supplanting-brushes” 15 years ago by replacing brushes, with rice paper as his creative instrument of choice. His works have travelled worldwide, including India, Cambodia and China.
Victor studied Chinese floral brush painting, calligraphy and seal carving under Masters Liu Ming Chew, Wong Yi and Chen Wen Hsi. In the 90s, Victor broke away from tradition and experimented with a unique ‘glass ink tube’ technique for Chinese calligraphy. The refinement of this process was reflected in his paintings of many famous temples in Thanjavur, India.
The artist has also explored other calligraphy mediums such as ‘crushed paper writing’ of different textures. His ‘paper-writes-on-paper’ innovation continues to impress many art lovers.
