Now in its tenth year, Handmade is Wallpaper* magazine’s most proudly ambitious annual project – the creation of a ground-breaking exhibition, dedicated to the marriage of craftsmanship and design through the essence of customisation. Acting as patron and creative director, Wallpaper* cherry-picks a selection of some of the world’s finest artists, craftsmen, makers and manufacturers, commissioning unique and one-off luxury items of furniture, fittings, food stuffs, fashions and much more.
For the 2019 edition, as part of a partnership with the DesignSingapore Council, seven established Singapore-based designers and design studios have been commissioned by Wallpaper*. They include Chris Lee, Clara Yee, Hans Tan, LAI CHAN, Lanzavecchia + Wai, Lekker Architects and Tiffany Loy. Earlier in May 2018, Wallpaper* had also invited young Singaporean designers to take part in its open call for the Next Generation Designer. Brandon Yeo, a recent graduate from LASALLE, was selected and commissioned to create a piece for this exhibition. The eight Singapore pieces will debut at the Singapore Design Week from 7 March 2019, together with selected exhibits from Handmade’s past editions. The works will then be shown at the Milan Design Week.
