Words are powerful, expressive and evocative. While abstract and intangible, they influence our lives and how we relate with each other in substantial ways. Words Create Worlds stems from Joanne Lim’s exploration of the power of words and how they shape the landscape of our minds. She likens words to seeds which take root in the mind, and over time start to shape our thoughts, in turn moulding our external realities. The paintings, pen and brush calligraphy pieces as well as mixed media collages in the exhibition are birthed from processes of reflection and rumination. Through them, she gives form to words and the contours of the thoughts that fill our lives, attesting to the enduring presence and importance of words to us and the world that we live in.
