Join renowned Japanese playwright/director Suguru Yamamoto of Hanchu-Yuei for a one-day workshop to explore the concept of prioritizing place in theatre-making!
The condition 「場所から生まれる」(“basho-kara umareru”, literally translated as “originating from the place”) is a focal point for Hanchu-Yuei’s Suguru Yamamoto in his creative process for theatre. In this one-day workshop, participants will physically encounter and experience his concept.
“Basho-kara umareru” refers to the notion of prioritizing “place” as the topmost element when structuring a theatre piece. In other words, it puts forward the idea that theatre can be initiated by the “place” before anything else—not by the actors, not by the director, or not even by the text.
