Featuring a show of colourful, cool, catchy Neo-Pop, American pop-sensation Jan Larsen captures the contemporary American experience in all its grit-and-glory.
The Harvard- and Oxford-educated artist makes his Asia debut at Singapore’s UltraSuperNew Gallery on 109 Rowell Road. The show, entitled the Young Americans Tour in honor of the land of Jan’s birth, is a timely reflection on the true character of the US — an open, honest, inclusive, hard-working, innovative and egalitarian land of opportunity, where every neighbor is seen to be a friend or a potential friend.
Showcasing a new interactive sculpture called ‘Speaking Terms,’ Larsen invites us to take part in a reflection on the possibility and importance of functional multicultural democracy in our worlds; and on our ability to have productive, functional (and even fun) relationships with those around us who are different from ourselves, even diametrically-opposed.
In line with the show, UltraSuperNew Gallery has begun dedicating a portion of sponsorship and sales proceeds to the legal-aid charity RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services), a Texas US non-profit that provides free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant and refugee children and families along the United States’ southern border with Mexico.
