The Substation is on the look out for a new Artistic Director to helm the arts centre and further develop its significant legacy in Singapore’s art and cultural landscape. Current Artistic Director Noor Effendy Ibrahim will step down from his position in January 2015, to pursue greater challenges.
The new Artistic Director will assume leadership of The Substation at an important crux, as it prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary next year.
“It has been a great honour to lead The Substation for the past five years, and my decision to step down was made with great reluctance and heaviness. I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to the team at The Substation, the Board, and the arts community for the confidence, support, and most importantly friendship that has fed me with courage and determination during my time as Artistic Director.”
says Effendi.
Effendy is the fourth Artistic Director since The Substation’s founding in 1990. He assumed the position in January 2010, succeeding co-Artistic Directors Audrey Wong and Lee Weng Choy. Under his leadership, The Substation initiated a number of programmes that sought to nuture the local arts scene, including the Associate Artist Research Programme, Directors’ Lab, The Love Letters Project, and the expansion of its Open Call programme to include Sound Art and Performance categories.
The Substation is now accepting applications for the role, until 15 December 2014. It hopes to confirm the new appointment in March 2015. For further details on the role, please visit www.substation.org/about-us/
