Official Opening of Visual Arts Centre at Dhoby Ghaut Green

News
Visual Arts Centre

Visual Arts Centre

Visual Arts Centre held its launch ceremony with Guest-of‐Honour Ms Kathy Lai, CEO of the National Arts Council, on 5th March 2016, 6:30pm. Visual Arts Centre is an exhibition gallery and art studio (498 sqm) with a mission to spearhead and promote arts and cultural activities and community engagement in the arts, within the 11,144 sqm Dhoby Ghaut Green park consisting of an open-air amphitheatre (250 seating capacity), lawn and gravel areas.

Built by SCDA Architects in 2007 and shortlisted for the World Architecture Award in 2010, Dhoby Ghaut Green was officially launched in October 2009 by the URA – envisioned to be a public gathering space for the public to gather and enjoy performances and arts activities. Currently managed by the National Parks Board, the Dhoby Ghaut Green is to welcome more arts recreational activities, performances and arts showcases in a six-year plan, in collaborative effort with Visual Arts Centre to rejuvenate the Dhoby Ghaut Green with the arts.

Visual Arts Centre’s exhibition gallery is a gallery space dedicated to local and international visual arts and design exhibitions. Providing complimentary consultancy to exhibitors, assistance and support for local artists in applying for art grants, design and editing support for collaterals, as well as marketing and publicity support on its internet and email channels, Visual Arts Centre has received highly positive feedback for its full range of complimentary services to support exhibitors. Local artist Peter Chia commented that he had thought of organizing a solo exhibition for a long time, but as it was difficult to manage an exhibition on his own. He was pleased to hear that the team at Visual Arts Centre provides a host of complimentary services to support him in organizing his own exhibition, which is scheduled to take place at Visual Arts Centre from 22 – 29 October 2016.
